  • Build and cultivate relationships with children and all members through personal interaction, attend worship, social events and utilize social media.
  • Equip and coach adults to be faith forming in the lives of kids through such programs as Sunday school and mentoring.
  • Organize, coordinate, and oversee programming to build cross generational relationships designed to build community within Advent.

Job Title:          Director of Faith Formation

Reports to:       Church Council

Work Director: Pastor

FAITH FORMATION VISION:

Our vision for Faith Formation at Advent Lutheran Church is to nurture the faith development of each member of the congregation as they fulfill their baptismal promises and grow in relationship with Christ and one another. We understand this is done by organizing our ministries on the following five Vibrant Faith principles:

  1. Faith is formed by the power of the Holy Spirit through personal trusted relationships-often in our own hones.
  2. The church is a living partnership between the ministry of the congregation and ministry of the home.
  3. Where Christ is present in faith, the home is church, too.
  4. Faith is caught more than it is taught.
  5. If we want Christian children and youth, we need Christian adults.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Pastor to assist parents, god-parents, and all adults to fulfill their baptismal promise to nurture our children in the Christian faith utilizing Vibrant Faith practices.
  • Build and cultivate relationships with children and all members through personal interaction, attend worship, social events and utilize social media.
  • Equip and coach adults to be faith forming in the lives of kids through such programs as Sunday school and mentoring.
  • Organize, coordinate, and oversee programming to build cross generational relationships designed to build community within Advent.
  • Work with other ELCA youth and faith formation leaders to build community in the area through joint activities.
  • Work with Pastor and lay leaders to involve children and all congregational members in congregational ministry and in serving the needs of the community.
  • Responsibly develop, oversee and report on the Faith Formation budget and related yearly fundraising events to offset the costs of retreats, trips, and camps.
  • Keep careful and accurate records of all activities related to ministry. Submit and present a monthly report to the Church Council of accomplishes and plans.
  • Engage in continuing education in relation to Faith Formation, and the Vibrant Faith principles/program.
  • Be available to match the needs of the congregation while having a set of core and flexible office hours, as approved by Pastor.
  • Obtain pre-approval by Pastor to schedule vacation days, training, and other scheduled absences; Keep the secretarial staff informed of these absences.
  • Develop and oversee the Adult and Youth Protection Program and run background checks according to statutory, regulatory, and synod requirements.

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong public commitment to his/her faith in Jesus Christ as his/her Lord and Savior
  • Person of personal integrity and spirituality
  • View themselves as an integral member of the congregation
  • Ability to work with and get along with diverse groups of people
  • Leader who can work independently, organize, and lead people in ministry
  • Ability to take and give directions, supervision, and suggestions for improvement
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills
  • College graduate preferred. Appropriate experience and training is acceptable, in lieu of a college degree
  • Demonstrated comfort and experience with vibrant faith principles, (cross- generational faith formation) and/or willingness to become well versed with vibrant faith principles.
  • Pass background screening

 

Compensation

The Director of Faith Formation is a full time position

Compensation & Benefits provided:

  • Competitive salary
  • Flexible work hours and office hours
  • Two weeks of paid vacation per year
  • $500 provided annually for continuing education
  • Mileage reimbursement

Employment Termination

  • The Director of Faith Formation shall provide at least a 30 day notice of resignation
  • Advent Lutheran Church may terminate employment at any time with cause.
