What You Can Expect

Worship services at Advent focus on God.  They are characterized by biblical preaching, spirited singing, great variety in orders of service and frequent celebration of the Lord’s Supper.

We believe that the body and blood of our Lord Jesus are truly present in and with the bread and wine of the Lord's Supper.

Our Communion table is open to baptized Christians who have been instructed in the meaning of the Sacrament and who wish to receive the grace that God provides through this sacrament.

Our worship regularly includes anthems by our Adult Choir and Praise Team.  We also include drama, special music on a regular basis.   Most services also include a special "Let's Talk,  Children"  focus time for young children.  Sermons seek to challenge, uplift, and encourage you as you encounter God’s Word, helping you to grow in your relationship with God and your service for Christ in daily life.

The order of service generally follows the outline of the services in the authorized worship resource of  the ELCA,  Evangelical Lutheran Worship.  If you are familiar with standard liturgical worship, you will immediately feel at home.  If liturgical worship is new to you, you will find the service easy to follow; the service, including the service music, is printed out entirely.

The style of music is a rich blend of traditional and newer hymnody.  Our emphasis is on a hymn’s sing-ability.   Our worship follows the seasons of the church year: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost.  Scripture readings, hymns, prayers, and the sermon reflect the season.

Casual attire, including jeans, is the most common form of dress at our services.

Advent offers two worship opportunities each weekend.   During the School year, services are held each Sunday at 8 and 10:30 AM.  During the summer months, from Memorial Day through the Labor Day weekend, we meet for worship at 5 PM on Saturdays and 9 AM on Sundays.
